Syeda Nasrin Akhter

 

Syeda Nasrin Akhter, a veteran educator, comes with over 30 years of experience and a wide-ranging background in operationalizing primary, secondary, and higher secondary school education in Bangladesh and abroad. Nasrin is an acclaimed principal with longstanding understanding of the management of school policy and regulations, developing academic curriculum, inculcating discipline within the student body, establishing code of ethics, and promoting high quality learning standards and atmosphere.

 

Starting her career as an instructor of English language for an ILO project in 1989, Nasrin went on to teach at the BAF Shaheen English Medium School (SEMS) as a Senior Teacher in 1992. With her active involvement in the school’s major responsibilities, Nasrin quickly rose to the position of Vice Principal as well as Acting Principal by 1993.
Dedicating six years to the school’s consistent development, Nasrin helped SEMS become one of the leading English medium schools in Bangladesh and eventually became the Principal of the school in 1999. She worked tirelessly as the Principal of the school for the next ten years, during which she helped develop the Senior Section of the school. The O-Level candidates from the school performed excellently well under Nasrin’s leadership and the overall student body won several awards at various national and international competitions.

 

In 2009, Nasrin was appointed as the Principal of Bangladesh School Muscat in Oman. Nasrin spent the next three years there directing and coordinating educational, administrative, and counselling activities of primary, secondary, and higher secondary education of the international school with 2,000 students of 18 nationalities following O & A level syllabus of Edexcel.

 

Upon her return to Bangladesh, Nasrin eventually joined the Monno International School and College (MISC) as the Principal, which is an English medium school established in the rural settings of Bangladesh for the upliftment of rural children. Nasrin spent several years there training the teachers on the current best practices of education and well as liaising with the local community to disseminate information about
the school and gather their feedback for improvement. Nasrin has also served as an Academic Advisor at Bharateshwari Homes, an Institute of Kumudini Welfare Trust.

 

Nasrin has attended innumerable professional trainings, seminars, and academic programs in Dhaka, Muscat, London, Sheffield, Washington DC, Atlanta, Savanna, and Orlando. In 1994, Nasrin was invited by the Commonwealth Institute to pursue a Commonwealth Fellowship under London University at London, UK, in the Management of Education. As the Principal of SEMS, Nasrin was invited to the Cambridge International Examination by CIE for an exposure visit with the principals of other leading schools in Bangladesh. In Spring 2008, Nasrin attended Georgia Southern University in Georgia, USA, to pursue a semester-long graduate fellowship in International Leadership in Educational Program as a Fulbright Scholar, commissioned by the US Department of State.

 

While at the BSM, Nasrin has attended the Edexcel Summit 2011 in UAE. Nasrin was also commissioned by Cambridge Board as a contributing author of a chapter in “Bangladesh Studies.”

 

Nasrin is a people-oriented person, driven to sustain the growth and development of students, teachers, administrators, support staff, and volunteers alike.

 

In February Mrs. Nasrin joined Southeast Bank Green School as
Principal.
